Ann Valliday was aged 12 years when recorded by the 1851 census for Newmains in Cambusnethan parish. She had been born in New Monkland parish Lanarkshire and worked as a tambourer.

Ann Vallely was one of the sponsors at the baptism of Margaret McCallum by Father John Black at Carluke on 26 October 1851. Margaret was the unlawful daughter of John McCallum and Ann Nisbet of Newmains and had been born on 1 October 1851. The second sponsor was Patrick Gallagher.

Ann was an unmarried woman of 19 years, living with her parents at Portland Iron Works, when the 1861 census for Riccarton parish recorded them. She had been born in Monkland (sic) Lanarkshire. ^{2 4 5}

Ann married Owen WOODS on 26 August 1861 in St Joseph's RC Chapel, Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.¹ (Owen WOODS was born about 1840 and died after 9 January 1877 ³.)
