In the 1841 census for Dunkeld parish in Perthshire John Hardie appears to be (since the 1841 census does not note relationships) the head of a small household of himself and his wife and four small children, living in the High Street. His age is in the 30-34 year old bracket and his birthplace was Perthshire. He worked as a shoemaker.

John Hardie was a shoemaker, according to the marriage certificate of his son, James, in 1864. 1


John married Cathrine FRASER, daughter of John FRASER and Jean STEWART, on 15 November 1832 in Dowally Parish, Perthshire, Scotland. (Cathrine FRASER was born on 20 August 1813, baptised on 22 August 1813 in Dowally Parish, Perthshire, Scotland and died before 25 November 1864 1.)
