In the death certificate of his daughter, Margaret, in 1897, Charles McGonigill was recorded as a crofter.

Charles McGonigill's death certificate of 1903 recorded him as a Pauper, formerly a Crofter & Hawker, and widower of Janet Gunn. His usual residence was Smirral, Latheronwheel, Caithness. His recorded age at death was 82 years. His parents were deceased. ³
