The 1881 census for Latheronwheel in Caithness recorded Margaret McGonigal living at Upper Smerill. Her age was noted as 23 years and her occupation as that of domestic servant.
Margaret McGonigill was found dead on 1 September 1897. Her death certificate recorded her as a single woman who worked as an agricultural labourer. Her recorded aged at death was 38 years. 2 3
