   Cause of his death was carcinoma of bladder over 14 months and suppression of urine over 3 days.5

  General Notes:

Joseph Smith, of Old (? unclear) Double Row, Aitkenhead, parish of Bothwell, Lanarkshire, who had been present where his mother, Isabella Smith, died, gave notice of her death before the registrar at Bothwell on 18 December 1893.

Joseph Smith died in 1902. His death certificate recorded him as a coalpit oversman, married to Catherine Quinn. His usual residence at the time of his death was Aitkenhead, Bargeddie, Lanarkshire. He was recorded as 46 years of age. Both of his parents were deceased. 5

James Smith, brother of the deceased, of Bankhead, Uddingston, notified the registrar at Glasgow on 22 September 1902. 5


Joseph married Catherine QUINN, daughter of Owen QUIN and Catherine DORIS, on 24 February 1881 in RC Church, Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 2 (Catherine QUINN was born about 1857 in Ireland 6 and was buried in Old Monkland Cemetery, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Father Peter Donnelly married the couple. The witnesses were Thomas Martin and Maria Queen.

Joseph Smith was a single man of 24 years of age. He lived at Nackerty, in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire. He worked as a coal miner.

Catherine Queen was aged 23 years and was a dye worker. She lived at 64 Merry's Rows, Blantyre. She was unmarried.

The marriage was registered at Blantyre on 28 February 1881. 2
