  General Notes:

In the 1871 census for Cambusnethan parish, Lanarkshire, James Collins was the head of the household residing at 66 Berryhill, 3rd Row. He was recorded as married, a quarryman, 29 years old and born in Ireland. With him lived his wife Rose Collins, also Irish born and aged 28 years, and their three children Ann, James and Patrick, aged 6 , 3, and 1 years respectively. The two older children were noted as having been born in Bothwell parish, and the youngest in Wishaw. the family's dwelling had one windowed room, and only the eldest child was at school. Along with the family two lodgers were listed: Peter Dougan aged 26 years, and James Kelly aged 31 years, neither married and both born in Ireland. Peter was a quarryman and James was a quarry labourer.

James Collins was the informant of the birth of his son, Joseph, in 1872 in Cambusnethan parish, Lanarkshire. He made his X mark. He himself was recorded as a stone quarrier, and gave his marriage date and place as "1860 November Co, Tyrone Ireland".

When James Collins died at the age of 47 years in 1889, his death certificate recorded him as a quarryman and widower of Rose McIlroy.

In the 1889 marriage certificate of his son James, James Collins senior was recorded as a "Quarryman (deceased)".

James was recorded as deceased when his son Patrick married in 1895. Patrick's marriage certificate recorded him as a quarryman. 1 2 3 4 6

  Research Notes:

CORRECTION

In earlier versions of Patrick's People this family was confused, and the information intermingled slightly, with that of James Collins and Rose King, also based in Cambusnethan parish, who had children with the same names. This has now been rectified.

  Medical Notes:

James Collins, son of the deceased and who was present where the death occurred, gave notice of his father's death at Cleland on 25 October 1889. 4

James married Rose McILROY. (Rose McILROY was born about 1843 in Ireland and died between 14 June 1889 and 3 February 1872 2.)
