In the census of 1891, James Collins, a freestone quarrier, was the head of a household living at 68 Omoa Square in the parish of Shotts, Lanarkshire, with his wife Alice Collins, and his brothers Patrick and Joseph Collins who were boarders. Patrick Collins was recorded as 21 years old and born in Wishaw, Lanarkshire. He was a coal miner.

Patrick Collins was the informant of the birth of his daughter Rose in 1897 at 69 Omoa Square. He signed his name. His marriage date and place was noted as 1895 December 30th [sic] West District of Shotts.

In the census of 1901, Patrick Collins was living as head of the household at 69 Omoa Square in the parish of Shotts, Lanarkshire, with his wife Mary Ann Collins, and their daughter Rose, aged 4 years and at school, and son, James aged 1 year. He was a coal miner. He was recorded as born in Wishaw as being 31 years of age.

When his son, Joseph, was born in 1911, Patrick Collins was recorded in his son's birth certificate as a quarryman. The date and place of his wedding was noted as 31 December 1895 in the West District of Shotts Parish.

Teresa, Patrick's daughter, married in 1928 in Cleland. In her marriage certificate Patrick was recorded as a 'builders Labourer'.

According to the marriage certificate of his son, Joseph, in 1939, Patrick Collins had made his living as a 'Free-Stone Quarryman'.

In the death certificate of his son, Joseph, in 2002, Patrick Collins was recorded as a 'stonemason deceased'. 2 3 5 6 7 8


Patrick married Mary Ann CAVANAGH, daughter of John CAVANAGH and Theresa HUGHES, on 31 December 1895 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Mary Ann CAVANAGH was born on 20 September 1867 in County Tyrone, Ireland 9, baptised on 11 October 1867 in Coalisland RC parish, County Tyrone, Ireland 9 and died after 4 November 1939 6.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Patrick Hackett and the witnesses of this marriage were John Collins and Catherine Cavanagh.

Patrick Collins was a bachelor of 26 years of age. He lived in Omoa Square and worked as a quarryman. Both of his parents were deceased.

Mary Ann Cavanagh also lived in Omoa Square. She was unmarried and aged 26 years and worked as a domestic servant.

The marriage was registered on 3 January 1896 at Cleland, William Spence registrar.

Note: The marriage itself was celebrated on 31 December 1895, but the year of registration ( and therefore filing on the index) is 1896. 1
