Mary A. Kavanagh was recorded by the census of 1881 living with her family, the eldest child, in Omoa Square, Cleland. She was a scholar, aged 13 years, and had been born in Ireland.

The 1891 census for Cleland recorded Mary Ann Cavanagh living as a housemaid/domestic servant at the Roman Catholic manse. The priests there were Father John Hughes, born in Ireland as was Mary Ann, and Father John Cameron who was born in Inveravon, Banffshire, Scotland. There was one other servant called Mary Ryan. 3 7 8 9


Mary married Patrick COLLINS Coal miner, son of James COLLINS Stone Quarryman and Rose McILROY, on 31 December 1895 in RC Chapel, Cleland, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (Patrick COLLINS Coal miner was born on 6 October 1869 in Cambusnethan Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 5 7 and died after 4 November 1939.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated, after banns, according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Patrick Hackett and the witnesses of this marriage were John Collins and Catherine Cavanagh.

Patrick Collins was a bachelor of 26 years of age. He lived in Omoa Square and worked as a quarryman. Both of his parents were deceased.

Mary Ann Cavanagh also lived in Omoa Square. She was unmarried and aged 26 years and worked as a domestic servant.

The marriage was registered on 3 January 1896 at Cleland, William Spence registrar.

Note: The marriage itself was celebrated on 31 December 1895, but the year of registration ( and therefore filing on the index) is 1896. 1
