  General Notes:

In the baptism record of 1867 of his daughter Mary Anne, John Cavanagh was recorded as a labourer. The address was noted as Mullaghatague in Coalisland RC parish, County Tyrone.

The birth certificate of his daughter, Catharine, in 1875, recorded John as a coal miner. He was the informant of Catharine's birth.

The 1881 census for the parish of Shotts recorded John and Teresa Kavanagh and their five children living at 116 1\\2 Omoa Square, Cleland, Lanarkshire. John was a coal miner and had been born in Ireland, as had his wife and three of their children. He worked as a coal miner.

In the 1889 marriage certificate of his daughter Alice, John was recorded as a Coalminer.

In 1891 the census recorded John Cavenagh living at 170 Omoa Square, Cleland, with his wife, four children, and one boarder. John was recorded as 48 years of age and worked as a coal miner. He had been born in Ireland.

The marriage certificate of his daughter Mary Ann in 1895/6 recorded John as a labourer.

John died in 1909. His death certificate recorded him as a carting contractor and married to Theresa Hughes. His recorded age was 61 years. No information was reported in the certificate about either of his parents. 1 3 4 5 6 7 8

John Lithgow MD certified the cause of death.

John Cavanagh, son of the deceased, who had been present, gave notice of his father's death before the registrar, William McGill, at Cleland on 22 November 1909. 5


John married Theresa HUGHES, daughter of James HUGHES and Unknown, on 15 November 1864 in Dungannon RC Church, Drumglass Parish, County Tyrone, Ireland.1 2 (Theresa HUGHES was born in 1845 in Ireland 3 4 and died after 20 November 1909 5.)


  Marriage Notes:

In the birth certificate of his daughter Catharine in 1875, John Cavanagh gave the date and place of his marriage:
November of 1863 or 1864 in Killiman, County Tyrone, Ireland

Note: This place is probably Killyman in County Tyrone. Griffiths Valuation, taken between 1848 and 1864, lists Killyman and there are two Cavanaghs listed in Killyman, namely Bernard, in Corr, and James, in Bogbane.
