In the census of 1891, James Collins, a freestone quarrier, was the head of a household living at 68 Omoa Square in the parish of Shotts, Lanarkshire, with his wife Alice Collins, and his brothers Patrick and Joseph Collins who were boarders. Joseph was the youngest and recorded as 19 years old and born in Wishaw. He was a freestone quarrier.

The 1901 census for the western district of Shotts recorded Joseph Collins living with his wife Kate, aged 25 years, and his two children, Rose aged 2 years and John aged 3 months, in Mahon's Building. Joseph was a quarryman, born in Wishaw about 1873. A boarder, a pit labourer, called James Bradley, aged 50 years and born in Ireland, also lived with the family. 1 3


Joseph married Kate COLLINS MS UNKNOWN. (Kate COLLINS MS UNKNOWN was born about 1876 in Cleland, Shotts Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 3.)
