1881 Census:
Charles McCormick was the head of a household living at 13 Wellpark Street, Dennistoun, Glasgow. He was recorded as having been born in Glasgow. He was 32 years old and was a tobacco spinner. In the household lived his wife Mary McCormick, his mother in law Ann Howden, and the couple's five children. Ann Howden was recorded as 69 years of age and born in Ireland. She was a laundress. Her daughter Mary was born in Govan parish and was 35 years old. The children of Charles and Mary ranged in age from 13 years to 2 years. The eldest child was named Charles and the youngest Jane. The middle three were Ann, aged 8 years, Susan, aged 6 years, and Mary, aged 4 years. All of the children were Glasgow born.

In his death certificate of 1902, Charles was recorded as a foreman tobacco spinner, and married to Mary Howden. He was 51 years old at death. Both parents were deceased.

John Wylie MB CM certified the cause of death.

Mary McCormick, the widow, who had been present where her husband's death occurred, notified the registrar on 11 June 1902 and made her X mark.


Charles married Mary HOWDEN, daughter of James HOWDEN and Ann HEPBURN, on 12 July 1867 in St John's RC Chapel, Portugal Street, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Mary HOWDEN was born about 1845 in Govan parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland and died after 11 June 1902.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. The priest was Father John Kerr, one of the Catholic clergymen of St John's Catholic Church, Portugal Street, Gorbals, Glasgow. The witnesses were Patrick Devanny and Rebecca McGhie, both of whom made their X mark.

Charles McCormick was a tobacco spinner. He was a single man of 21 years of age. He lived at 134 Rutherglen Road Glasgow. His mother was deceased.

Mary Howden made her X mark. She was 22 years of age and lived at the same address as the bridegroom. She was unmarried. Mary's father was deceased.

The marriage was registered at Glasgow on 15 July 1867. 1
