from Wikipedia

"William King, eldest son of John King, born at Plewland, 28th February, 1637. Settled at Kirktown of Duffus, succeeded his father in the management of the estate of Gordonstown, which he conducted with great prudence and judgment. During the period of his management, the family of Gordonstown acquired a considerable part of Duffus, and the estate of Dollas, and he probably continued to conduct the business until the death of Sir Ludovick, the second Baronet, in 1688. In 1684, he purchased from John Paterson, Bishop of Edinburgh, the lands of Newmill, the Chancellor's, Chanter's, Archdeacon's, and Dean's Crofts of the Cathedral Church of Moray, the Parsonage Crofts of Kinnore, and Spynie, Over and Nether Panns, the Mansion-House of Greyfriars, with Boyle's Orchyard, and the half of the lands of Barflathills. The conveyance is dated 9th December, 1684. After this he took up his abode at Greyfriars, and entered largely into the affairs of the burgh. He was Provost from 1690 to 1700, and again from 1709 to 1711.

Mr. King was largely engaged in commercial business, both on his own account and jointly with Sir James Calder, William Duff of Dipple, and others, in which he was very successful."

William married First WIFE.1 (First WIFE was born about 1645.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Mr. King was largely engaged in commercial business, both on his own account and jointly with Sir James Calder, William Duff of Dipple, and others, in which he was very successful. He married in early life, and had two sons, James and John, who were both engaged in mercantile business. His first wife, whose name I have not discovered, appears to have died young."

from Annals of Elgin 1

William next married Margaret CUMMING, daughter of George CUMMING of Lochtervandich, Merchant, Provost of Elgin and Marjory LESLIE, on 29 April 1682.1 2 (Margaret CUMMING was born about 1652 and died on 2 January 1714 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"His (George Cumming's) eldest daughter married King of Newmill, Provost of Elgin."

William, who succeeded him, was born 1692. Margaret married William Gordon, merchant in Elgin, and was mother of Admiral William Gordon, and other children. Barbara married James Anderson of Linkwood, Provost of Elgin (1706), and had a family. Agnes married James Craig, writer in Elgin, son of the Rev. Thomas Craig, minister of St. Andrew's. Jean married Alexander Falconar, merchant in Elgin, son of the Rev. William Falconar, minister of Dyke, in 1705, and was mother of William Falconar, Bishop of Moray, afterwards Bishop of Edinburgh, Primus of the Scotch Episcopal Church."
