First married William KING of Newmill, Provost of Elgin, son of John KING tenant in Plewlands, Factor to the Earl of Sutherland and Barbara ELLIS.1 (William KING of Newmill, Provost of Elgin was born on 28 February 1637 1 and died on 27 September 1715 in Greyfriars, Elgin, Scotland 2.) Marriage Notes: "Mr. King was largely engaged in commercial business, both on his own account and jointly with Sir James Calder, William Duff of Dipple, and others, in which he was very successful. He married in early life, and had two sons, James and John, who were both engaged in mercantile business. His first wife, whose name I have not discovered, appears to have died young." |
