  General Notes:

The 1861 census for Elswick in Newcastle recorded Edward Tragheim aged 5 months living with his family. He was recorded as having been born in Newcastle.

In 1871 the census for Edinburgh, St George, found Catherine Tragheim, a widow, and, along with two of her children, living at 37 William Street. Edward Tragheim, younger of the two children, was 10 years old and had been born in England. He was a scholar.

The 1891 census for the burgh of Peebles, Scotland, recorded Edward Tragheim, employed as a foreman baker, as head of a household living at 59 Northgate Terrace. He was 30 years of age and had been born in England. The household consisted of his wife Elizabeth, aged 28 years, born in Dalkeith, Midlothian, and their two sons and three daughters aged from 9 years to 1 month.

The 1901 census for Tranent, East Lothian, recorded Edward Tragheim as head of a household that comprised himself, his wife, and their seven children. He had been born in England and was 40 years of age. He worked as a foreman baker. The family lived in a dwelling with four or more windowed rooms.

Edward was recorded as a baker in his son Edward's marriage certificate of 1907 and in his son, Alfred's marriage certificate of 1912. 1 5 6 7 8 9

Edward Tragheim is listed in the computer of the General Register Office for Scotland (Scotland's People) in the 1901 census as Fragham (above), a misreading of what is actually written in the census entry. 1


Edward married Elizabeth Jane Ayton McCOLL, daughter of Bernard McCOLL and Elizabeth KAY. (Elizabeth Jane Ayton McCOLL was born on 22 November 1862 in Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland 1 10 and died after 21 June 1912 1 7.)
