DIVORCE

Robert Haimes and Isabella Scott were divorced between 1891 and 1904 when she remarried. The only legal causes (grounds) for a full divorce in Scotland at that time were adultery and malicious or wilful desertion continuously over four years. All formal divorce actions had to be raised in the Court of Session in Edinburgh. ⁴

Robert married Isabella SCOTT on 2 May 1890 in 70 High Street, Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland.¹ The marriage ended in divorced before 1904. (Isabella SCOTT was born on 26 October 1865 in Cavers parish, Roxburghshire, Scotland ^{5 6} and died in 1947 in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland.)

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The celebrant was William Carrick Millers, Minister of Wellington Church, Wilton, Hawick. The witnesses were John Taylor and Mary Scott.

Robert Haimes was a single man who was a journeyman tailor by occupation and aged 28 years. His address was 4 Backdamgate Hawick. His parents were living.

Isabella Scott was also single and worked as a picker and mender. She was was 25 years old and lived at 12 Slitrig Crescent Hawick. Her parents, James Scott, a schoolmaster and Margaret Balmer, were living.
