  General Notes:

The 1855 marriage certificate for Mary Anderson records her parents as Robert Anderson and Helen Jane Bella Johnstone, and her date of birth as 14 December 1833. However, although there are baptism records in the Hawick parish registers for other offspring of this couple, Mary's baptism is not there.

Mary Haimes gave notice of the birth of her son Robert before the registrar, Thomas Henderson, at Haddington on 25 December 1861 and made her X mark.

Mary gave notice of the birth of her daughter Margaret before the registrar, Walter Hay, at Haddington on 3 August 1864 and made her X mark.

Mary Haimes was recorded by the 1871 census as a wife and mother of 5 children living with her husband at Gowl Close in Haddington. She was recorded as 39 years of age and born in Hawick, Roxburghshire. Her children were aged from 6 months to 12 years. She was a tailor's wife.

The marriage was solemnised according to the rites and ceremonies of the Church of Scotland. J. MacRae Minister of Hawick presided. The witnesses were Robert Anderson, mason, and Margaret Anderson.

John Haimes, of 23 High Street Hawick was 21 years of age and worked as a journeyman tailor. He was unmarried and had been born and registered on 2 March 1834 at Haddington. His parents were both living.

Mary Anderson of 27 High Street Hawick was 21 years old and worked as a domestic servant. She was a spinster. She had been born but not registered on 14 December 1833 at Hawick. Her parents, Robert Anderson and Helen Jane Bell Johnstone, were living.

The marriage was registered at Hawick on 9 June 1855, Anthony Dodds being the signing registrar. 1
