John Haimes gave notice of the birth of his son George before Thomas Kempe Registrar on 1 December 1870. John himself was described in the birth certificate as a tailor journeyman.

The 1871 census for Haddington recorded George Haimes living with his family at Gowl Close. He was aged 6 months and had been born in Haddington. ^{1 2}
