BARCLAY, Walter of Bathnagoak, then of Newton and of that Ilk
(About 1527-1602) |
BARCLAY, Walter of Bathnagoak, then of Newton and of that Ilk 1User ID: K602. General Notes: "Having purchased these extensive estates, Walter Barclay gave the land thus acquired the name of Newtoun, and we find the tithes of the parish of Gartley leased in 1580 by the Bishop of 'Murray' to Walter Barclay of Newtoun. The above record mentioning the Barony of Barclay, and the fact that his son and grandson, as we shall see, were styled of 'Newtoun and of that Ilk,' indicates that he obtained the erection of his estates into a new Barony of Barclay. Walter married Jonet FORBES.1 (Jonet FORBES was born about 1528.) Marriage Notes: "Walter Barclay, Lord of the Barony of Barclay, received the 1517-1542, lands and heritage of Gartley by resignation from his grand- hartley father, Patrick, in the year 1517. |
