William bought the estate of Fyvie in Aberdeenshire in 1733 for his third wife Anne Gordon, daughter of the Duke of Gordon, and her children since the Haddo estate was to pass to his eldest son of a previous marriage. When he died in 1745 Fyvie passed to his 9 year old son William.

Inscription engraved around Gordon enclosure in Methlick Churchyard:

"William 2nd Earl of Aberdeen Kt, b. 1678 Elected M.P. for County of Aberdeen 1708 but was declared unable to sit in Parliament being the eldest son of a Peer, elected one of the Representative Peers of Scotland 1721-1727. He built Haddo House 1732 and died of a fever in Edinburgh 30 Mar.1745 in 70th year of his age & was buried here 15 Apr 1745."

William married Mary LESLIE, daughter of David MELVILLE (LATER LESLIE) 3rd Earl of Leven, 2nd Earl of Melville and Anna WEMYSS, in 1708.1 (Mary LESLIE was born in July 1692 1 and died in June 1710 in Methlick parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland 1 9.)

"Mary, who was born in July 1692. She was married in 1708 to William, Lord Haddo, afterwards second Earl of Aberdeen, and died in 1710."

William next married Susan MURRAY, daughter of John MURRAY 2nd Marquess of Atholl, then Duke of Atholl and Katherine HAMILTON, on 26 April 1716 in Tibbermore, Perth, Scotland.2 (Susan MURRAY was born on 10 April 1699, baptised on 10 April 1699 in Tibbermore, Perth, Scotland and died in June 1725 10.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Susan (Murray), born at Huntingtower 15 April 1699, married there, as his second wife, 25 April 1716, to William, Lord Haddo, afterwards Earl of Aberdeen. She died in June 1725, leaving issue."

William next married Anne GORDON, daughter of Alexander GORDON 2nd Duke of Gordon and Henrietta MORDAUNT, on 9 December 1729 in Bellie parish, Moray, Scotland.3 (Anne GORDON was born about 1713,11 died on 26 June 1791 3 and was buried in St Cuthbert's cemetery, Edinburgh, Scotland 3.)
