"Sir Patrick Dunbar of ' Bele ' or Biel, who appears as brother of George, Earl of March, in 1387-88. In or
before 1390 he received from his brother Earl George 40 merks of land in the territory of Mersington, including a considerable portion of the parish of Eccles. He was made prisoner at Homildon, 14 September 1402. He occurs in charters of 1423 and 1425, as ' uncle ' of George, eleventh Earl of March. He was one of the envoys to arrange for the ransom of King James I., and he appears as a commissioner for the Marches down to 12 July 1429."

This is is Biel, a village in East Lothian, Scotland, south of Dunbar. 3


Patrick married Euphemia STEWART Countess Palatine of Strathearn, suo jure, daughter of David STEWART Earl Palatine of Strathearn and Caithness, Prince of Scots and Daughter LINDSAY.1 2 (Euphemia STEWART Countess Palatine of Strathearn, suo jure was born about 1385 and died after 1434 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"His wife, in 1434, was Euphemia Stewart, daughter of David, Earl of Strathearn, and widow of Patrick Graham of Dundaff. He was alive in 1438. He had issue at
least two sons, Patrick and George, and is supposed to have been the ancestor of William Dunbar the poet."

"The Countess survived him (Patrick Graham, her first husband), and had dispensations to marry Robert Stewart of Fife, eldest son of Murdach, Duke of Albany (on 4 May 1414), also Robert's brother Walter (5 September 1415), but she married, secondly. Sir Patrick Dunbar of Bele, and was still alive in 1434, but is not again named in record."
