User ID: M898. General Notes: "Thomas, Master of Erskine after his brother's death. Before that date, from 1541 onwards to 1547, he held the office of Abbot or Commendator of Dryburgh. He concluded a treaty with England in June 1551 He had sasine, on 7 October 1551, as Sir Thomas, Master of Erskine, of the lands of Brotherstanes, co. Berwick, sold to him by Sir John Home of Coldenknowes. He seems to have died soon afterwards, or at least before his father." Thomas married Margaret FLEMING, daughter of Malcolm FLEMING 3rd Lord Fleming, Lord Chamberlain of Scotland and Janet STEWART 'La Belle Ecossaise', 30 January 1548(1549)(contract).1 2 (Margaret FLEMING was born about 1528.) Marriage Notes: "He (Thomas Erskine) married (contract 30 January 1548-49) Margaret, daughter of Malcolm, third Lord Fleming, and widow of Robert, Lord Graham, who fell at Pinkie, but by her had no issue. He had a natural son Adam, Commendator of Cambuskenneth, and a daughter (by a Jonet Abernethy) Elizabeth, married (contract 29 January 1562-63) to Robert Graham of Gartmore, brother of John, Earl of Menteith." |
