Cause of her death was carcinoma of the uterus and mestastasis in the groin.
General Notes:
When Mary and her sister were born the family lived at 14 Sandwich Street.
In 1891 the census found Alexander Haimes, head of the household, aged 53 years and born in Haddington, living at 39 Niddry Street, Edinburgh, with his wife Mary, his two children, George and Ellen, and his two nieces, Mary and Rebecca. The census recorded this latter Mary as 15 years old at the time. She had been born in London and worked as a message girl.
When Mary Elizabeth Haimes died, her death certificate recorded her as a single woman of 68 years of age. Her usual residence was 16 South Clerk Street Edinburgh and she had been a housekeeper and was retired. Both of her parents were deceased. 1

Helen Adams, a cousin, gave notice of Mary Elizabeth's death before the registrar at Edinburgh on 2 October 1944.
