General Notes:
James Brown Adams was born outside of marriage, like his brother, to Sarah Adams. On this occasion, however, the father did not put his signature to the child's birth notice thus depriving the child of his father's surname, although he may very well have been Robert Davidson, the coal miner who fathered Sarah's first child. Sarah, recorded as 'housekeeper', gave notice of her son's birth on 9 August 1878 at Pathhead before the registrar George Noble.
The two Scottish sons of Sarah Adams went to the Winton School using the surname de Weldon. 1 3
