Anne married William GRAY of Braikie, Master of Gray, son of Sir William GRAY of Pittendrum and Geillis SMYTH, 30 November 1637 (contract).1 (William GRAY of Braikie, Master of Gray was baptised on 31 July 1621 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland 2 and died in August 1660 in near London, England 1.) Marriage Notes: "William, Master of Gray, eldest son of Sir William Gray of Pittendrum .... was in terms of the charter of 8 January 1638 before mentioned styled Master of Gray during the lifetime of his father-in-law, Andrew, seventh Lord Gray. He jointly with his father had a charter under the Great Seal on 5 March 1640 of the barony of Gray, and on his marriage he had 232,000 merks given by his father. On 4 April 1649 he was served heirgeneral to him .... He was killed near London, while fencing, by the Earl of Southesk, in the end of August 1660, during the lifetime of his father-in-law, and therefore never succeeded to the title. He married, first (contract dated 30 November 1637), Anne, daughter and heiress of Andrew, seventh Lord Gray, and had issue." |
