Isobel married Alexander GORDON 2nd of Auchintoul, Advocate, Lord of Session, son of George GORDON 4th of Coclarachie and Grissell SETON.1 2 3 (Alexander GORDON 2nd of Auchintoul, Advocate, Lord of Session was born about 1632 and died in 1710.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Major-General Gordon was the eldest son of Alexander Gordon of Achintoul, one of the senators of the college of justice, in the reign of King James VII. by his wife, Isobel Gray, daughter to Gray of Braik, brother (see Note below) of Lord Gray' to Lord Gray; and was born the 17th of December 1669."

from History of Peter the Great

"Lord Auchintoul married Isobel Gray, 'daughter of Gray of Braik and niece (see Note below) of Lord Gray' (Life, prefixed to Major-Gen. Gordon's Peter the Great}, "with whom he begat three sons and daughters" (Balb. MS., P- 52)."

from Coclarachie

Note:

If one examines the dates around this family, it is almost impossible to see how Isobel Gray was the niece of Patrick, 8th Lord Gray. Her son Alexander Gordon was born in 1669 and Isobel's parents' marriage contract was in 1637. It may be that as the daughter of 'William Gray of Braik', she was thought to have been a niece rather than a sister of Patrick Gray, who was not in the direct line of inheritance of the title he held, and that William was supposed to have been Patrick's brother rather than his father.

His (George Gordon's) Son George Gordon fiar of Cockclearichie married Grizell Setton the Laird of Pittmeddens daughter, with whom he begat sons and daughters, George, Alexander and James Gordons. George dyed young. Alexander married Issabel Gray daughter of ----------- with whom he begat three sons and daughters, viz, his eldest son Alexander Gordon made Major General in the Muscovite Service..."

from Balbithan MS
