  Research Notes:

CAUTION

The linking of Alexander Muirhead to the Muirheads of Lauchope should be treated with caution. The Mother Bedford website neatly sums up the problem about Alexander Muirhead:

"The Muirhead Clan Society database included the additional name of Alexander, born in 1595, as a child of James and Janet (Hamilton) Muirhead. The name of Alexander, as a child of this James Muirhead, is claimed by the Muirhead Clan Society database to have come from the Account Of The Family Of Muirhead Of Lachop, but it does not actually appear in that document."

Elsewhere in the website an historical Alexander Muirhead is mentioned, in the section on Other Muirheads:

""In September, 1570/1 a man by the name of Alexander Muirhead younger of Lachop was charged to enter ward within the castle of Blackness within 15 days under pain of 1,000 merks."

This latter individual seems rather young to be the husband of Ewphame Jervey, and father of her numerous children being born up to the 1640s. Moreover, the given name may be erroneous, since no-one by that name, as yet, has been uncovered in primary documents. That is not to say he did not exist. The reference, however, may have been to James 'younger of Lauchope', and the reporter simply got the given name wrong. Or he may have been a son of a son, otherwise unrecorded.

Clanmacfarlanegenealogy website names this Alexander Muirhead as son of James Muirhead and Janet Hamilton, citing as source

"[S105] Andrew Cuninghame, 1st Laird of Drumquhassil, Blaine L. Berkowitz, Esq, MBE (Hon), FRSA, FZS, Kt.C. OEG, (recieved as e-mail attachment 10 Feb 2012)." 3 4 5

Alexander married Ewphame JERVEY on 15 October 1620 in Falkirk parish, Stirlingshire, Scotland.1 (Ewphame JERVEY was born about 1595.)
