INNES OF INNES : ALTERNATIVE NUMBERING OF GENERATIONS

This Robert Innes of Innes is numbered by modern secondary sources as '11th of that Ilk'.

In the 'Gight' section of The House of Gordon, vol. 1, ed. John Malcolm Bulloch, (The Connection between the Inneses and Gight Gordons), Robert is numbered as:

"Sir ROBERT INNES, XV. of that Ilk (circa 1441)." (page 118)

Consequently, generations that follow him are accordingly numbered:

"JAMES INNES, XVI. of that Ilk,
married JANET GORDON, sister of 2nd EARL OF HUNTLY"

"ALEX. INNES, XVII. of that Ilk"

"ROBERT INNES of Cromy."

"JAMES INNES of Rathmakenzie
(killed at
Pinkie) mar. Catherine
Gordon, daughter of
ist laird of Gight."

"ALEX. INNES, XXII. of
that Ilk, murdered in
1580 by Robert Innes,
IV. of Invermarkie"

"ROBERT INNES,
XXIII. of that Ilk."

The numbering used in the Gight text follows the numbering used by the compiler, Duncan Forbes of Culloden, in his book "Ane Account of the Familie of Innes". 5 6

Robert married Daughter DOUGLAS, daughter of Sir William DOUGLAS 2nd of Drumlanrig and Janet MAXWELL.1 (Daughter DOUGLAS was born about 1420.)
