  General Notes:

"On the death of his father about 1590, Arthur inherited his Banchory estate.

On 2 May 1598 at Arbroath, Lord John Hamilton Commendator of Aberbrothoc (Arbroath) granted to Arthur Garden of Banchory and his wife Elizabeth Gordon the lands of Banchory, with fishings on the River Dee and the lands of Tullohill which George Meldrum of Fyvie resigned in their favour. These lands to be held held by Arthur and Elizabeth in joint infeftment and their heirs.

Arthur died about 1605 or early 1606. On 15th March 1606, Alexander Garden was retoured heir to his father, Arthur Garden, in the lands of Banchory with the fishings on Dee."

Arthur married Elspet GORDON, daughter of John GORDON of Ardmachar, 4th of Gight and Marjory GORDON.1 (Elspet GORDON was born about 1553.)

George Garden, captain in the German army. He probably was the Rittmaster who initiated General Patrick Gordon of Auchleuchries into the ways of foreign service. The mother of the Rev. Dr. William Garden Blaikie was descended from this family. A Major Garden, 'laird of Troup,' son to the laird of Nether Banchory, died May, 1662. (Scottish Notes and Queries, 1st series, vii., 54.)"
