"On 15th March 1606, Alexander Garden was retoured heir to his father, Arthur Garden, in the lands of Banchory with the fishings on Dee.
On 28 Sep 1609 Alexander Garden of Banchory acted as cautioner for William Strachan of Glenkindie, Alexander Strachan of Touxhill, Alexander Strachan, Fiar of Glenkindie and their tenants when John Erskine of Pittodrie accused them of sowing corn on the Back Moss of Auchnagat. William Strachan of Glenkindie was probably Alexander's father-in-law.....
On 6 Nov 1616 Alexander again bound himself as cautioner in this case for George Merser one of the Commissar Clerks of Old Aberdeen for a loan of 100 merks from James Mowat. The Obligation was that the loan was to be repaid on 10 Nov., 1616, within the dwelling-house of Mr. Gilbert Ross in Aberdeen. Alexander added to the estate with the purchase of the Kirkton of Banchory when in 1618, Mr Andrew Milne, minister of Maryculter and his wife Marjory Gray sold the Kirkton to Alexander Garden for 3000 merks, but subject to a wadset of 2000 merks upon the Mains of Banchory, held by Gilbert Club, burgess of Aberdeen.
In 1623 Alexander Garden 'disponed to William Forbes of Monymusk, and Elizabeth Wishart of Pitarrow, his spouse, the haill lands of Banchory with the pertinents.' This appears to have released a substantial sum. Janet Strachan and her husband Alexander Garden wadset half the Barony of Torry to William Forbes of Monymusk for 20000 merks Scots, Part was paid to them on 26 July, 1624, and Janet Strachan confirmed receipt of 5000 merks as the first term's payment on 12 Jan 1625. Following the sale of the barony of Banchory, it appears that Alexander moved into Old Aberdeen to become a merchant there. Presumably he traded with merchants in Denmark and the Netherlands, When he was in Elburg in the Netherlands on borrowing 50 gelders from Robert Brebner on 24 Sep 1628 he wrote a promissory ticket to repay by Martinmas.
On 28 April 1637 Isobell Vallace in Fetterneir, mother of Robert Brebner, Citizener in London, and John Still, her husband on behalf of Robert sued Alexander Garden, sometime in Banchory for repayment of the Loan ticket dated at Elburge 24 Sep 1628, for 'fiftie Gilderes Spruis,' The value of a Guilder was fixed at 19/4 Scots.
Agnes Mowat, daughter and executrix of James Mowat in Dowaltie and James Ross in Quhobbes, her husband raised an action against Alexander Garden sometime of Banchory, then in Old Aberdeen for the bond of 6 Nov 1616 when he was cautioner on 100 merks for George Merser a Commissar Clerks of Old Aberdeen which was was to be repaid on 10 Nov., 1616 to the deceased James Mowat,"
