GORDON, Second Daughter 1

  • Born: About 1549
  • Marriage (1): LEITH, Patrick of Harthill 1

   User ID: W801.

Second married Patrick LEITH of Harthill, son of Henry LEITH 4th of Barnes and Elizabeth GORDON.1 (Patrick LEITH of Harthill was born about 1507 and died in 1597 2.)

  Marriage Notes:

"His (Thomas Gordon's) Brother James Gordon of Achenheiff succeeded, who married Bessy Rutherford with whom he begat two daughters, the Eldest Barbara Gordon married the Laird of Assloon Alexander Calder, the Second married the Goodman of Harthill Leith ... " (page 62)

from Balbithan MS

Note:

The Leiths of Harthill does not mention her. Strathbogie lay to the north of Leith lands; the Gordons were powerful and, in the 1590s, troublesome. Patrick's loyalty to the Roman Catholic and Protestant factions varied. A link with the Gordons at the time might have been seen as a kind of insurance policy. 1
