  Research Notes:

DATE OF DEATH

The website stirnet.com lists this Gilbert Keith, 5th of Ludquharn, as having died in 1567, and goes on to designate his son, William, who was killed in 1585, as "6th of Ludquharn".

However, the remission granted, on 8 June 1585, by the King James VI to George Keith and his associates who had killed William Keith, refers to the

"interfectionis Willelmi Keyth apparentis de Lodquharne"

The use of that term would indicate that the father of the murdered man, Gilbert, was still alive at the time of his son's death, and that the victim, William, married to Margaret Keith, was heir to, not laird of, Ludquharn at the time of his death.

So it would be the victim's son, also called William and married to Margaret Bannerman, who would then become the 6th laird of Ludquharn, then later 1st Baronet. 4 5

Gilbert married Margaret GORDON, daughter of James GORDON 1st of Lesmoir and Margaret STEWART 'Lady Eden'.1 2 (Margaret GORDON was born about 1519.)

  Marriage Notes:

His (James Gordon 1st of Lesmoir's) eldest daughter of the first marriage married John Gordon of Ardmather, the 2d married the Laird of Ludquharn Keith, and the third married the Laird of Meldrum."
