Katharine married Alexander GORDON 3rd of Blelack, son of John GORDON 2nd of Blelack and Cristan LUMSDEN, 26(or 27) November 1604 (sasine).1 2 3 (Alexander GORDON 3rd of Blelack was born about 1577 and died in August 1630 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"His (John Gordon's) eldest Son the said Alexander Gordon of Blelack married the goodman of Achmeddens daughter Katharine Baird with whom he had no succession. The said Alexander Gordon bought the Lands of Proney and died in Peace in Culldrain in August 1650 (for 1630:see correction in quotation below) years.

His brother Son (ie his nephew) John Gordon of Blelack succeeded ...."

"At page 43 (of the Balbithan MS), it is stated that George Gordon of Cracullie married a daughter of James Gordon [the 3rd laird] of Blelack, and (see Note below) brother of Alexander Gordon of Blelack (who with his spouse, Katharine Baird, got sasine in Blelack 27 November 1604, his father's liferent being reserved)." (page 34)

An authorial error - it should read
" a daughter of James Gordon [the 3rd laird] of Knockespock and was brother of Alexander Gordon of Blelack"

"1631 - July 6. - Registration of sasine, dated 13 June 1631, of John Gordon, brother of the deceased Alexander Gordon of Blelack, in the lands of Blelack upon a precept of clare constat by John, Earl of Mar, in his favour as heir of his said brother-german, who died last infeft in the lands of Blelack, under reservation of the liferent of Katharine Baird, the widow of the said Alexander Gordon. The precept is dated at the Canongate, 31 March 1631. John Gordon in Pronny is bailie, and gives sasine. The above Alexander G. of Blelack 'bought Proney, and died in peace at Culdrain in 1650 [sic, evidently for 1630]. These Gordons of Prony were tenants of Drumbulg for a long period. Culdrain is the next farm to Drumbulg. Katharine Baird married as her second husband Robert Gordon in Haltoun of Drumbulg." (pages 35 and 36)

"Gordon of Blelack was an old family in Aberdeenshire. Alexander Gordon of Blelack married, Nov. 26, 1604, Katherine, daughter of Gilbert Baird, of Auchmedden. - Vide 'History of the Baird Family,' by W. N. Fraser, Esq., of Tornaveen, a representative of Auchmeddden."

Katharine next married Robert GORDON of Haltoun of Drumbuilg by 23 June 1632 (registration of renunciation).3 (Robert GORDON of Haltoun of Drumbuilg was born about 1580.)


  Marriage Notes:

"1632 - July 24-. - Registration of Renunciation, dated at Aberdeen, 23 June 1632, by Katharine Baird, widow of Alexander Gordon of Blelack, and now spouse to Robert Gordon of Haltoun of Drumbuilg, of the liferent right in lands of Blelack, in the parish of Logymar, and Middle Third of Culdrain, in favour of John Gordoun, eldest lawful son of John Gordon, now of Blelack, brother and heir of the deceased Alexander Gordon, sometime of Blelack, in terms of a contract between them, dated 23 March last. The renunciation is made in presence of Mr James Irving, Sheriff-Depute of Aberdeen.

Note. - We find in the book of Annual Rentaris, 1633, the Marquis of Huntly debtor to Robert Gordoun of Cowdrayne upon wadsett of Cowdrayne, Illm. merks ; and the same to the same upon Haltoun, Drumbulge, and Milne of Colluthie, Illlm. merks." (page 36)
