The 1901 census recorded Alfred Tragheim living with his parents and siblings at 43 Bridge Street, Tranent, in East Lothian. He had been born in Dalkeith Midlothian and was 15 years old. He worked as an apprentice baker. 2


Alfred married Elsie May GILES, daughter of Edwin Mound GILES and Elizabeth Sophia TAYLOR, on 21 June 1912 in Blythswood Registry Office, Glasgow, Scotland.1 (Elsie May GILES was born in 1889 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place at 50 Wellington Street Glasgow, by declaration before James Norman Alexander (occupation unclear) and Catherine Tragheim Artist. The warrant of the Sheriff Substitute for Lanarkshire was dated 21 June 1912. The registrar who signed the document was George P. Strathern.

Alfred Tragheim was a single man of 27 years of age who worked as a chef. He lived at Southcote, Ayr Road, Prestwick.

Elsie Giles lived at the same address as the groom. Like him she was single, but was younger, 22 years old, and worked as a restaurant waitress. Her father was deceased. 1
