HASTINGS, Ada Countess of Atholl, suo jure 1
User ID: V427. Ada married John of Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl, jure uxoris, son of David of Strathbogie and Unknown.1 (John of Strathbogie, Earl of Atholl, jure uxoris was born about 1210.) Marriage Notes: "Ada, who succeeded as Countess of Atholl, and is said to have married John of Strathbogie, son of David of Strathbogie, who was the third son of Duncan, sixth Earl of Fife, and took his name from the lands of Strathbogie, which were conferred upon him by his father, as appears from references to him in the Register of Moray. There is no absolute proof of this statement, but it is rendered probable by the fact that the later Earls of Atholl designed themselves as of Strathbogie, and the evidence of seals, which will be noted below." |
