  • Born: About 1210
  • Marriage (1): HASTINGS, Ada Countess of Atholl, suo jure 1

   User ID: X47.

John married Ada HASTINGS Countess of Atholl, suo jure, daughter of Sir David DE HASTING Earl of Atholl, jure uxoris and Forflissa Countess of Atholl, suo jure.1 (Ada HASTINGS Countess of Atholl, suo jure was born about 1220.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Ada, who succeeded as Countess of Atholl, and is said to have married John of Strathbogie, son of David of Strathbogie, who was the third son of Duncan, sixth Earl of Fife, and took his name from the lands of Strathbogie, which were conferred upon him by his father, as appears from references to him in the Register of Moray. There is no absolute proof of this statement, but it is rendered probable by the fact that the later Earls of Atholl designed themselves as of Strathbogie, and the evidence of seals, which will be noted below."
