ELIZABETH LYON X2

According to Scots Peerage, volume eight, there were two women, of two successive generations, who married a Gordon Earl of Aboyne. The details and out these two women will be found first on page 299, and the second on page 303, of that book. The first lady married once. The second lady married three times.

Charles Gordon, 1st Earl of Aboyne, who died in March 1681, married Elizabeth, daughter of John Lyon, 2nd Earl of Kinghorne on 28 August 1665. The first Elizabeth Lyon was her husband's fourth cousin.

Charles Gordon, 2nd Earl of Aboyne who died in April 1702, married Elizabeth, daughter of Patrick Lyon, 3rd Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. After the death of Charles Gordon, this Elizabeth Lyon married Patrick, 3rd Lord Kinnaird. After her second husband's death she married Captain Alexander Grant of Grantsfield. The second Elizabeth Lyon died in 1739. She was her husband's first cousin. 1


Elizabeth married Charles GORDON 2nd Earl of Aboyne, son of Charles GORDON 1st Earl of Aboyne, Lord Strathavon and Glenlivet and Elizabeth LYON.1 (Charles GORDON 2nd Earl of Aboyne was born about 1669 and died in 1702 2.)

Elizabeth next married Patrick KINNAIRD 3rd Lord Kinnaird, son of Patrick KINNAIRD 2nd Lord Kinnaird and Anne FRASER, in or after 1702.1 (Patrick KINNAIRD 3rd Lord Kinnaird was born about 1681, died on 31 March 1715 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 2 and was buried 3rd April 1715 in Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh, Scotland 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Patrick (Kinnaird), third Lord Kinnaird. Nothing is recorded of him save that he was opposed to the Union and voted against it. .... he married, secondly, Elizabeth Lyon, second daughter of Patrick, Earl of Strathmore, and widow of Charles Gordon, second Earl of Aboyne, who died 1702, and from whose estate she had a jointure of 5000 merks. She survived Lord Kinnaird, and married, thirdly, Captain Alexander Grant of Grantsfield, and died January 1739. By her Lord Kinnaird had issue : 1. Patrick, fourth Lord Kinnaird."

Elizabeth next married Captain Alexander GRANT of Grantsfield, Sheriff Principal of Aberdeen, son of James GRANT of Gellovie, Bailie and Unknown, after 1715.1 (Captain Alexander GRANT of Grantsfield, Sheriff Principal of Aberdeen was born about 1692 and died on 28 April 1776.)
