In 1841 Thomas Nisbett was recorded living with his wife, Janet, in Broughton Street, in the civil parish of St Mary's, Edinburgh. His age was in the 55-59 years age group, and by way of occupation he was noted as being a 'coach proprietor'. As to whether he was born in the census county where he was living, his answer was 'No'.

The 1851 census for Edinburgh Greenside, found Thomas Nisbet living at 24 Greenside Row. With him lived his wife, Janet. Thomas was recorded as a 'Coal Merchant dealer (pauper)'. His age was noted as 62 years and his place of birth as Edrom, Berwickshire.

When Thomas Nisbet died in 1857, his death certificate recorded him as married and as aged 66 years at death. 2 4 5 6

John Smith MD, who saw the deceased on 4 February 1857, certified the cause of death.

Thomas Nisbet was buried in Newington Cemetery Extension, as certified by Gordon (?) undertaker.

Daniel Kemp, House Governor, gave notice of the death of Thomas Nisbet before the registrar, Thomas Heriot, on 7 February 1857 at Edinburgh. 2

Thomas married Janet ALLAN, daughter of John ALLAN and Grizzle WILSON, on 15 May 1820 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 (Janet ALLAN was born on 13 January 1799 in Duns Parish, Berwickshire, Scotland,4 5 8 9 died 7 December 1857 at 3.00 am in City Poor House, Edinburgh, Scotland 8 and was buried in 1857 in Newington Burying Ground, Edinburgh, Scotland 8.). The cause of her death was chronic diarrhoea for a considerable time.2
