Jean next married John KENNEDY 5th Earl of Cassilis, son of Gilbert KENNEDY 4th Earl of Cassilis and Margaret LYON, 4 November 1597(contract).^{1 2} (John KENNEDY 5th Earl of Cassilis was born about 1568 and died in October 1615 ².)

"His (John Kennedy's) uncle, the Master of Glamis, in February 1590-91, proposed to marry him to the sister of the young Earl of Argyll, but this plan was hindered by the Chancellor, then John, first Lord Maitland of Thirlstane, and the Earl married, contract 4 November 1597, Jean, only daughter and heiress of James, fourth Lord Fleming, and widow of the same Chancellor, who had died 3 October 1595.She was much older than the Earl, but was wealthy. She died, it is said, 23 June 1609, aged flfty-flve, and was buried at Haddington.' She was certainly dead before 22 August 1611.' The fifth Earl of Cassillis had no issue, and was succeeded by his nephew, VIIL John, sixth Earl of Cassillis"
