The 1841 census for St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, recorded Ann Winton as second eldest of the children listed. She was 9 years old and had been born outside of Midlothian.

The 1861 census for the St George district of the parish of Edinburgh, New Greyfriars, recorded Ann Winton living at 145 Grassmarket with her parents and sister, Jean. She was recorded as 28 years of age, and had been born in Perth, like her mother. She worked as a sempstress. Ann Winton was married. ^{1 2}
