In the record of the marriage of Janet Law to Alexander Winton in 1822, Janet was recorded as 'Daughter to the deceased William Law labourer in Montrose'. In the death certificate of Janet Winton in 1884, however, it was George Low, a smith by occupation, who was recorded as her father. There may be a family explanation for this. ^{2 3}
