"Provost Jaffray was baptised on 11th October, 1584, and married, in 1611, Magdalen Erskine, a daughter of the laird of Pittodrie, by whom he had fifteen of a family, prominent among whom were his eldest sons Alexander and John, both afterwards occupants of the civic chair."
