In 1859 John McLeod was the informant of his son John's birth before the registrar, Walter Milne, at Keig on 31 March 1859. John McLeod senior was recorded as a wood cutter. ²

John married Helen PHILIP, daughter of George PHILIP and Elizabeth GREEN, on 4 March 1859 in Free Church, Keig, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.¹ (Helen PHILIP was baptised on 24 April 1832 in Keig parish, Aberdeenshire, Scotland ³.)

The marriage was performed after banns at the Free Church, Keig. The minister was William P. Smith and the witnesses were George Green and James Cobban.

John McLeod was a bachelor of 28 years, residing at Woodside of Keig. He was a woodcutter by occupation.

Helen Philip was 26 years of age and a spinster. She was a lister at home by occupation. She resided at Gateside of Keig. Both of her parents were deceased.

The marriage was registered on March 5 1859 at Keig. ¹
