Margaret married Sir Walter SCOTT of Branxholme and Buccleuch, son of Sir William SCOTT of Kirkurd, younger of Buccleuch and Grisel BETON, 19 January 1567(1568)(contract).¹ (Sir Walter SCOTT of Branxholme and Buccleuch was born about 1549 and died on 17 April 1574 ¹.)

Margaret next married Francis STEWART 5th Earl of Bothwell, son of John STEWART Prior of Coldingham, later styled 'Lord Darnley' and Jean HEPBURN.¹ (Francis STEWART 5th Earl of Bothwell was born about 1562 and died in 1612 in Naples, Italy ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"He (Francis Stewart) married, before 1 July 1592, Margaret Douglas, daughter of David, seventh Earl of Angus, relict of Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch. On the fall of her husband she interceded for him on her knees before the King at the gate of Edinburgh Castle on 17 November 1592. Three days later a proclamation forbade any one to receive her. She was received into favour by the King in Glasgow, but on 3 December she was banished again until six days after she 'purchast ane letter of paice.' She died in 1640, at a great age, and was buried at Eckford. They had issue" (page 171)
