"Mary, who married, first, Lord Lewis Gordon, third son of the Marquis of Huntly, who afterwards succeeded as third Marquis of Huntly. According to tradition. Lord Lewis Gordon was concealed for some time in a cave in a rocky glen about two miles from Castle Grant. To that hiding-place the Laird of Grant's sister Mary carried supplies to the fugitive, and her attentions led to their marriage. The cave is still called 'Huntly's cave.' The marriage took place about October or the beginning of November, 1644. He had with her a tocher of 20,000 merks. He died in December, 1653. There was issue of this marriage, George, created first Duke of Gordon, and several daughters. She married, secondly, James Ogilvie, second Earl of Airlie, as his second wife (Contract dated 31st October, 1668), without issue. As she had been excommunicated, her marriage was arranged with great difficulty."
