Adam married Agnes STEWART Countess of Bothwell, daughter of Sir James STEWART 'Hearty', Earl of Buchan (3rd creation) and Lord Auchterhouse and Margaret MURRAY, 28 August 1511 or soon after.¹ (Agnes STEWART Countess of Bothwell was born about 1486 and died in February 1557 ².)

  Marriage Notes:

"On 27 August 1511 he had a Crown charter of grant and confirmation of vast estates in the shires of Edinburgh, Berwick, Roxburgh, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright, and Lanark, and of the offices of Sheriff of Edinburgh, antl of Edinburgh within the Constabulary of Haddington, and of Berwick ; Bailie of Lauderdale, and Admiral of Scotland ; all which had been held by his father. On the day following the King granted the barony and Castle of Crichton and others, on the resignation of Adam, Earl of Bothwell, to Agnes Stewart, (daughter of the deceased James, Earl of Buchan), whom he married, doubtless immediately afterwards."
