Alexander married Jean MAITLAND, daughter of Sir Charles MAITLAND of Pittrichie, 3rd Baronet and Jean FORBES, in 1707.1 (Jean MAITLAND was born about 1682 and died on 22 October 1746 1 2.)


  Marriage Notes:

"XI. Hon. Jean Arbuthnott Maitland of Pitrichie. She was served, 10 May, 1704, heir-general and heir of entail to her brother, and she married Hon. Alexander Arbuthnott, Baron of the Exchequer, 1707, third son of the second Viscount Arbuthnott. He took the name and arms of Maitland, and died in 1721 They had issue.."

"Alexander, married Jean Maitland, eldest daughter of Sir Charles Maitland of Pitrichie, who succeeded her brother in that estate in 1704, when her husband assumed the name and arms of Maitland of Pitrichie in place of those of Arbuthnott. He became a member of the Faculty of Advocates in 1697, was provost of Bervie and member of Parliament for that burgh 1702-4. He was appointed a Baron of Exchequer at the Union in 1707, and died in June 1721, survived by his wife, who died 22 October 1746. His testament is recorded 22 May 1754."
