John married.

John next married Margaret FORBES, daughter of Sir Alexander FORBES 2nd of Pitsligo and Maria HAY. (Margaret FORBES was born about 1445.)

  Marriage Notes:

"His (John Gordon's) eldest son John Gordon of Botarie Langar and Pitlurge married my Lord Pitsligo's daughter Forbes, with whom he begat two sons John Gordon Laird of Pittlurge Botarie and Langar, his second son James Gordon of Cairnborrow."

from Balbithan MS

Note:

The Balbithan MS has the '
eldest son John Gordon of Botarie Langar and Pitlurge', who married a Forbes daughter, as the eldest son of the 'heretrix', ie John Gordon of Essie or Scudargue. The dates suggest a missing generation, with another 'John Gordon of Botarie, hence the conflation. Similarly the Balbithan MS has James Gordon of Cairnborrow the grandson of the 'heretrix', whereas he was more likely the great-grandson. 1
