MacFarlane's Genealogical Collections vol.2 also states that Alexander Forbes married the daughter of 'John Gordon of Innermarkie', without indicating the parents or ancestors of that John Gordon.

The designation 'of Invermarkie' is usually found in later centuries in connection with the Gordons of Cairnborrow, of which it was a cadet, and elsewhere it is linked to the Innes family, through the marriage of Walter innes and Christine Gordon. ^{1 2 3}
