The said John Gordon as is storied was sent to Mcleod of Harris Family of purpose to care for his Education in the Highland Tongue which was then of no small accent ; and having there contracted an Intimacy with his daughter Hanault [Hamiltone1 MS. of 1644.] McLeod being the second daughter and sister to the Lady Mcintosh att that time, on her he begat a Son called Alexander Gordon of Essy of whom Buckie is come. His Father dyed in Essy and was interred in the Kirk of Essy. The said Alexander Gordon his eldest Son (begotten before his Fathers marriage with the Laird of Gights daughter Maitland) succeeded to his Possession of Essy and married the Laird of Ballquhoins Daughter Lesly"

His parentage is clearly set forth in a charter dated 31 May 1418, by William Fraser of Philorth, granting to John of Gordon, son natural of the late Sir John of Gordon, Knight, lord of that Ilk, his lands of Ardlach with mill of Badychale in the barony of Aberdour and sheriffdom of Aberdeen ; to be held to said John and to the lawful heirs-male of him and Elizabeth, now his spouse ; whom failing, to his heirs-male by any other wife ; whom failing, to Alexander, son natural of said John, and the heirs-male of his body ; whom failing, to Adam, son natural of said John, and the heirs-male of his body ; whom failing, to Thomas of Gordone, brother of said John, and the heirs-male of his body ; whom failing, to the lawful heirs of Gordone : the reddendo being a pair of white gloves yearly at Whitsunday." from Scots Peerage (vol 4) 1 2 5
