Robert Winton mechanick and his spouse Helen Webster had a daughter born 1st August and baptized the 13th named Catharine"

The census for 1841 recorded Robert Winton with his wife, Helen, and their four children, living at Henderson's Cottages in Cowpen, a village in Northumberland not far from Blyth. Catherine Winton, second youngest of the children, was recorded as aged 4 years and had been born in Scotland.

In 1861 Cathen Tragheim was living at 5 Gloucester Street, Elswick, according to the census of that year for Newcastle of Tyne. She lived with her husband and her two children, one aged 2 years the other 5 months, and her sister, Elizabeth. She was 23 years old and had been born in Dundee.

Catherine Tragheim gave notice of her daughter, Mary Jane's death before the registrar, David Beatson, at Edinburgh on 27 January 1869.

In 1871 the census for Edinburgh, St George, found Catherine Tragheim and two of her children living at 37 William Street. Catherine was a widow aged 32 years. She had been born in Dundee and now worked as a machinist.

When Catherine Winton died in 1914, her death certificate recorded her age as 76 years. It also recorded that she had been married to 1] Samuel Tragheim draper and 2] George Wright iron moulder. Her parents were both deceased. 4 6 8 9 10 11

James Cameron LRCP certified the cause of death.

George Wright, widower, who had been present where the death occurred, gave notice of Catherine's death before the registrar, P. Goldie, at Lasswade on 9 March 1914. 4


Catharine married John Samuel TRAGHEIM, son of Mendel TRAGHEIM and Toube PERAU, on 7 April 1857 in 45 Regent Terrace, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 2 (John Samuel TRAGHEIM was born on 10 August 1838 in Hosenpoth (Aizpute), Latvia 2 6 12 and died before 31 December 1872 2 11.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated according the forms of the Church of Scotland. A minister of the Free Church, Edinburgh, John Hunter, conducted the ceremony. James Winton and Hellen Robertson were the witnesses.

John Tragheim, aged 22 years and unmarried, of 92 High Street, was a shoemaker by trade. His mother was deceased.

Catherine Winton, aged 19 years and of the same address, was a stay maker. She was unmarried. Her father was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 9 April 1857 at Edinburgh, Andrew Balfour being the registrar. 2

Catharine next married George WRIGHT, son of Thomas WRIGHT and Margaret BROWN, on 31 December 1872 in Viewforth House, Edinburgh, Scotland.1 3 (George WRIGHT was born on 16 May 1842 in Bonnyrigg, Cockpen, Midlothian, Scotland 1 3 and died after 8 March 1914 4.)


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage took place ,after banns, according to the forms of the Free Church of Scotland. The minister was Thomas McLaughlan. The witnesses were Alexander Wright and Jessie Forbes.

George Wright was a bachelor of 31 years of age. He resided at No 15 of No 2 Tenement of Begg's Building, Abbey House, Edinburgh. He worked as an iron moulder.

Cathrin Winton or Traghiam was a widow of 32 years of age. She was a machiniste [sic]. She lived at Freer Street, Fountainbridge, Edinburgh. Her father, Robert Winton, was deceased.

The marriage was registered on 4 January 1873 at Edinburgh, John Minto the signing registrar.

NOTE
Cathrin Winton was born in 1837, and was therefore 35 years old when she married in 1872. 3
